Making Balanced Food Options So That You Can Enjoy Being Well

by Ryan Gert

Even though eating healthy is sometimes a hard thing to do, we all have that desire because we know that it is what we need. To eat healthy, making good food choices is your first priority.

The first healthy food you should turn to is vegetables. Vegetables are dense with nutrients we need such as protein, calcium, vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll. When you eat lots of raw vegetables each day, you lower your body’s pH level, which is necessary to keep your body balanced. Without the proper pH level, you could develop cancer, chronic constipation, and many other diseases. Eat at least 3 cups of vegetables daily to ensure that you get enough alkaline foods in your diet.

Fruits are also vital when it comes to your health. Eat at least 2 cups of fruit each day to ensure that you consume enough nutrients for your body. While fresh fruit is the best for you, if you cannot get enough fresh fruit to sustain you, opt for dried or frozen fruits, with canned fruit left as a last resort. Canned fruit usually is loaded with sugar or unhealthy forms of sugar that will detract greatly from the health benefits of the fruit.

The average person should consume 5 oz. of protein-rich beans each day. Beans contain almost no fat which makes them ideal for health-conscious people. Meat as a protein source has been the start of many debates, but beans are almost always considered a good option. Beans also contain plenty of fiber which, when paired with its protein, greatly reduces the risk of constipation, something that meat-eaters often struggle with.

Stay away from animal and hydrogenated fats. This includes butter, margarine, shortening and lard. If you need to replace these unhealthy ingredients in your recipes, simply exchange the solid fats for cold-pressed oils. There are many healthy oils available for health conscious people, including grape seeds, olive and avocado oils.

If you require assistance getting food for yourself or family and are earning a lower income, you may be eligible for Mississippi food stamps, Missouri food stamps, or food stamps from a different U.S. state that you live in.
