Many people live with the health condition called diabetes. Diabetes results from trouble with insulin, and causes the body to have higher than normal blood sugar levels. Living with diabetes does not have to be hard. Use the advice in this article to help you live with diabetes.

Skip the french fries and ditch the baked potato – it\’s time to replace your carb-heavy side dishes with something that\’s actually GOOD for a Diabetic. Salad! I\’m not talking potato or pasta salad, they\’re both carbohydrate disaster areas. Pick up some lettuce, shred some vegetables, throw on some tomato wedges and a nice light oil and vinegar dressing and dig in!

If you were overweight before getting pregnant, and you want to reduce your chances of getting gestational diabetes, you should try to cut back on calories instead of eating more. By being overweight in the first place and adding weight when you are pregnant, you risk your blood sugar levels getting too high.

Yogurt is an excellent way for a diabetic to convince their mouth that low-fat, sugar-free food IS enjoyable. Have a cup of non-fat yogurt mixed with seasonable fruit for breakfast with a high-fiber muffin and a glass of milk so that you\’ll have enough energy to last you right through until lunch.

If you need to control your diabetes, or even if you\’re interested in preventing diabetes, get more exercise. Scientific studies show that exercise lowers blood sugar, and it also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps control blood sugar levels in a healthy way. For the best results, do both aerobic exercise and resistance training.

If your child is diagnosed with Diabetes, make keeping track of their blood sugar fun. Have a contest where they get a reward for doing their blood sugar on time every day for a certain number of days, like a trip to the toy store or an hour at the park.

Eat a healthy diet and control your weight in order to avoid developing Type II diabetes. People who are overweight are more likely to develop diabetes, so keep your weight at an optimal level. Eat healthy foods and limit your intake of sugar, as diabetes develops when the body is unable to process sugar properly.

It is important that you have your cholesterol checked at least once a year if you have diabetes. Having diabetes increases your chances of developing high cholesterol, which can cause serious health problems like heart disease and stroke. There is a simple blood test called a fasting lipid profile that checks your cholesterol levels.

If you\’re not too worried about your Gestational Diabetes, consider this – every time you ingest sugar and your pancreas goes into overdrive, SO DOES YOUR BABY\’S! This will lead to an increased likelihood of your child having Diabetes either when he is born or later in life. Do NOT curse your child with this disease, instead take care of yourself now.

As it was said in the beginning, diabetes is quite the challenge. There are so many things that a patient with diabetes needs to remember and consider. Hopefully, reading this article helped to ground you, and allowed you to understand how in a practical way this disease can be managed and effectively controlled.

Do you know why antioxidants are important? They neutralize and fight free radical damage in our bodies. Free radicals are evil and destructive and come to us in all sorts of ways. We get them by having increased stress in our lives, through smoking, and through eating things like meat and drinking alcohol. We can limit our exposure to free radicals by being more aware, and we can fight them by learning to eat more foods high in antioxidants.

Do you know why your mother always said, Eat your vegetables? Do you think she knew what zeazanthin and lycopene were? How about anthocyanin? That\’s doubtful. These are the cartenoids present in the dark pigment of vegetables and fruits such as yellow corn, tomatoes and blue or blackberries.

We have enough free radical damage just living on the earth. Some causes are: too much sun exposure, exericise, stress, eating meat, alcohol and one of the worse – smoking. We can certainly pay attention to all of these, and we can also go one step further and start increasing our intake of antioxidants.

There are several foods that have high antioxidant properties. Dr. Oz (a well known cardiologist) did a show on \”Cancer Fighting Antioxidants\” where he talked about five of the top foods to eat containing the highest levels of antioxidants. The list went like this, from high to low: red beans, bluebetties cranberries, pecans and broccoli. Surprised about the red beans? These are excellent colorful fruits and vegetables to eat and they are easy to find. Dr. Oz used a technology on the show to measure the score of the studio audience. It was called a BioPhotonic Scanner and the results were quite shocking. Dr. Oz had the highest score of all. Why? He eats all these colorful foods and more.

We may actually prevent such illnesses as Alheizmers with a diet high in antioxidants. Many foods actually trigger antioxidant production. Some of these are: broccoli, tumeric, green tea and red wine. The earth provides what we need. One of the oldest and wisest quotes of all time, spoken by Hippocrates, goes like this: Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. We all have a natural healing force within us and we need to listen to that force.
